Tara Mader is a PhD candidate at the University of Minnesota working towards completing a degree in Rehabilitation Science with an emphasis on understanding the biochemistry that drives physiological changes. Her research focuses on the decline of skeletal muscle function with aging, particularly in females following decline of estrogen production (menopause). Decline of muscle function has been strongly associated with increased frailty and co-morbidities and is of particular concern to public health with the increasing age of the baby-boomer generation.
Tara is a creative thinker, attempting to identify at different angles to solve complex problems. Her constant brain-storms have led to a wide range of interests in the life sciences and health care fields, notably a master’s degree in kinesiology and her current PhD work. Tara actively participates in and supports a diverse team-based, interdisciplinary approach to problem solving, where experts in divergent fields come together for a common goal. She is also an advocate for life-long learning, and believes strongly in the value of mentorship and education.
